Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify the dependence of the development of freedom of the media on the development of the general level of civil liberties in the countries of Central Asia - Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan
and Russia adjacent to these countries. To fulfill the goal, a number of tasks were performed: a comparative analysis of the dynamics of the indicator of civil liberties in the countries of the region was carried out in comparison with the dynamics of the indicator of freedom of the media; thematic preferences of regional media and journalists are presented; describes
the dynamics of the development of new, modernized forms of censorship. The result of the study was the proof of the hypothesis about the direct dependence of the freedom of the media on the general level of civil liberties.
