Abstract
The article proposes a procedure for establishing media literacy and information culture in educational institutions of Uzbekistan. Using examples from countries leading in addressing this issue, such as Japan, Canada, Germany, and others, it is shown that media literacy should be taught to children in preschool institutions and early primary school grades. In Uzbekistan, however, this matter is being addressed at higher education institutions. The author believes this is too late and will not yield the desired results. The most relevant subjects can be retained for universities.
