Abstract
The article examines the specific features of international news agenda formation and the preparation of foreign information for television broadcasting. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing volume of international information flows, the acceleration of news distribution and the increasing number of sources used by contemporary television newsrooms. Under these conditions, the international news agenda should not be viewed as a mechanical reflection of events occurring in different regions of the world, but as the result of a multi-stage editorial selection process involving the assessment of event significance, source selection, information verification, determination of the presentation angle, visual material selection and placement within the structure of a news bulletin. The article systematizes theoretical approaches to the concepts of news agenda, international agenda, gatekeeping, news values and foreign information sources. Particular attention is paid to the television format, where verbal information interacts with visual content and limited airtime. Based on a secondary analysis of previously published Russian studies, quantitative data concerning the geography of the international agenda, the structure of foreign information sources and the criteria for selecting international events are compared. The study concludes that international television news agenda formation is a complex process in which professional selection and verification determine the quality of the final media product.
