Abstract

In the digital media environment, media hype acts as a form of short-term but intense attention mobilization, often accompanied by emotional contagion, cognitive overload and distortion of public perception. The article examines the preventive, diagnostic, cognitive-regulatory and normative-ethical functions of media literacy, with a particular focus on its preventive and regulatory dimensions as tools for countering the adverse effects of media hype. It also provides a comparative analysis of the mechanisms of media hype and media literacy, based on an interdisciplinary approach that includes cognitive, sociocultural and algorithmic dimensions. The article also proposes a model of media-literate response applicable both at the level of individual media consumption and within editorial and institutional practices. Media literacy is conceptualized as a foundation for systemic information resilience in the post-truth era
